So you’ve decided to hire a videographer to create a powerful video that captures your brand and effectively markets itself to your customers. Congrats! But what does this new video project entail and how does the process work? Well, it all takes place within three basic phases of video production: pre-production, production, and editing.

1. PRE-PRODUCTION

The first is pre-production. This is where ideas are brought together into a cohesive plan. This is also where your goals and objectives are established. You’ll come up with your budget and the message you’re wanting your video to convey as well as your target audience.

Planning is of utmost importance and your project will be better for it. We believe the most important part of pre-production is storyboarding. Although sometimes looked over, storyboarding remains an important approach to any video production process. This key pre-production step shapes the story for the video to come and helps facilitate communication between us and our clients. With proper storyboarding, production value increases and the end result is magical.

We will consider questions that are paramount to producing your vision — Will you need a green or blue screen behind the presenter? Where are the shot locations? Will make-up be required? What about props? How much time do you need to film? Do you want a film production or video production and what’s the difference? Once we’ve answered these questions, it’s time to develop your final script or storyboard.

2. PRODUCTION (FILMING)

Production is the step where shooting begins and is often the most exciting step for the client. On production day, we’ll set up the proper lighting, sound, and video equipment at the shooting site. We also make it a point to always have clear communication with our clients, making sure everyone is comfortable on the shoot and is aware of their roles and responsibilities. Shooting day could involve any number of things, like hiking to a frozen lake for a music video, but it could also be conducting interviews with employees, recording voice-overs, and capturing any supporting b-roll footage. Either way, the planning is done, and now it’s time to capture the footage that perfectly encapsulates your brand.

3. EDITING

Once filming is finished and your video is ready for assembly, it arrives in post-production. This is where everything comes down to the wire and the final product is produced. Our producer and editor work together to carefully edit and craft your story to all of the right emotional beats. We critique, revise, and polish it to make your brand stand out, striving for nothing short of pure beauty and movie magic.
