6 Tips for Hiring a Videographer
Feel confident and comfortable in your hiring decision for your next video project.
Videographers capture the moment in sound and movement; you can hear the toast or watch the newlywed bride and groom dance their first dance over and over again. They can help you create an award-winning advertising commercial for your company or capture the scoring point in the championship game. Whatever the case may be, we have some tips when it comes to hiring a Denver videographer.
Here is what you should look for:
1. VISION
It’s important that your videographer and you have the same vision. You want to capture the moment perfectly, in your eyes. But since they’re the ones ultimately behind the camera, making sure the videographer is on the same page as you will go a long way.
2. QUALITY
There are ways to cut corners and costs when it comes to videography. But do you really want the quality to be one of them? Every clip should be crisp, clean, and just the right lighting. Find a videographer that won’t discount the quality of your project.
3. BUDGET
You’ll want to find a videographer that can work within your budget. Looking at their past projects will show you if they consistently go over budget or are able to stay within the allotted means.
4. TIME FRAME
You’ll also want to verify that the company of your choice can do your project in the time frame you are needing it done. By taking a look at their portfolio and previous work history, you can see if they are a company that meets deadlines and doesn’t sacrifice or cut corners to get the job done in a timely fashion.
5. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REFERENCES
Be sure to get — and check — qualifications and references. Ask your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers for references. Once you find a few companies that you’re willing to work with, ask them for their references. Do due diligence to follow up and check them out. It’s also a good time to ask about everything we’ve just covered: their visions, quality, ability to work within your budget, and time frame.
6. ASK QUESTIONS
Ask questions — lots of them. The more questions you ask, the more you’ll learn about the company. Here are just a few to get you started:
● Do they have a company backstory?
● How long have they been in business?
● What are their specialties?
● Do they contract out the work or do they do it themselves?
● How many employees do they have?
● What types of equipment do they use?
The main takeaway is to do your research because you want to feel confident and comfortable in your hiring decision. Your goal is to get on the same page from the start so that your project will turn out the way you envisioned it. Check references and ask plenty of questions — they’re used to it. It will help you to build a great relationship and trust with your videographer, and you’ll likely have a new friend in the end!
